Changes in ED1 positive cells in the choroid following systemic lipopolysaccharide injection

4 and 8 hours Increased number of round cells, occasionally accompanied by an increase of dendritiform cells
16 hours A tremendous number of round cells, diffusely present in the whole area of the choroid with focal accumulation
24 hours Round cells decreased in number, dendritiform cells numbers increased
48, 72, and 96 hours A large number of dendritiform cells with more and longer dendrites and a larger but vague cell body was present, accompanied by a decrease of pleiomorphic cells
7, 10, and 14 days Both dendritiform cell and pleiomorphic cell numbers decreased and gradually returned to preinjection level
