COVER: Photomicrograph of a paraffin section of normal retina from an 83 year old donor (periodic acid Schiff and haematoxylin stain). Photoreceptor outer segments and Bruch's membrane are periodic acid Schiff positive (red). In patients with Sorsby's fundus dystrophy, the thick extracellular matrix deposits associated with Bruch's membrane are strongly immunopositive for the TIMP-3 protein. (From paper by Fariss et al, this issue, pp 1329-34.)
