  • The preincubation with 50 mM, 100 mM, and 200 mM trehalose leads to significantly better survival of cells, compared with trehalose at the concentration of 20 mM or lower, maltose at any concentrations, phosphate buffered saline (PBS), and commercially available tear substitutes (Mytear, Soft Santear, and Hyalein). p<0.0001, Kruskal-Wallis test; p<0.05, Tukey-Kramer test.
