      THE BURDEN OF GLAUCOMA

      Quigley and Broman review the published data of prevalence models of glaucoma in order to predict the number of people likely to be affected in 2010 and 2020. Their conclusions are startling. Glaucoma remains the second leading cause of blindness worldwide, disproportionately affecting women and Asians. In 2010 there will be 60.5 million people with glaucoma. This will increase to 79.6 million by 2020. See p 262
