Sustained remission after infliximab in a child with vasculitis refractory to conventional immunosuppressives including interferon-α

We report a 15-year-old Caucasian girl with longstanding sight-threatening bilateral uveitis who did not respond to intensive treatment with corticosteroids, azathioprine, ciclosporin and interferon over months with a progressive deterioration of vision in both eyes. She developed recurrent anterior chamber hypopyon formation, even when under the given medications. She had a rapid and dramatic response to treatment with infliximab, and long-term remission was obtained by continuous 24-month treatment with repeated infliximab infusions.
