Giant retinal pigment epithelial tear after laser photocoagulation for diabetic retinopathy

    A 62-year-old man, who underwent focal laser photocoagulation in the left eye (OS) for diabetic retinopathy 2 years previously, complained of metamorphopsia OS. The left fundus had a semilunar retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) tear measuring 2×5 disc diameters (DD) temporal to the macula at the margin of a serous retinal pigment epithelial detachment (PED). Two days later, marked cystoid macular oedema and a serous retinal detachment (SRD) developed in the fovea. Seventeen days later, the RPE tear markedly developed over two quadrants, and the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) decreased to 20/63 OS. The patient was followed without treatment.
