We thank Drs Raizada and Al Sabti1 for their interest in our article ‘Enhanced internal search for iatrogenic retinal breaks in 20-gauge macular surgery’2 and for their useful comments.

We are aware that most vitreoretinal surgeons currently employ wide-field viewing systems and peripheral indentation during their search for retinal breaks at the end of surgery. The existing literature on this subject, however, often mentions indirect funduscopy or does not specify search methods. And from personal communications we still encounter practices …
