The eye and ocular adnexa of the non-human primate
2023, Spontaneous Pathology of the Laboratory Non-human PrimateSide Effects Associated with Prostaglandin Analog Therapy
2008, Survey of OphthalmologyCitation Excerpt :However, the question still needs to be explored as to whether the heterogeneously colored gold-brown Mediterranean eyes, analyzed by Arrenz-Marquez et al,9 intrinsically have a more pronounced induced iris darkening response than the northern European hazel eyes studied by Cracknell et al.33 The importance of ethnic differences in iris pigmentation4 may be relevant and worthy of further study given the robust induced iris darkening response reported in the Japanese population.1,27,121 Despite differences and contradictions in findings between various studies and different groups, there seems to be an overall uniformity of belief from the histopathologists,3,9,95 in agreement with the tissue culture and animal research work,77–79,98,105,111,117 that induced iris darkening is essentially a process of PGA-induced hightened melanogenesis. There is no substantial evidence of PGA-provoked precancerous events, iris inflammation, or secondary glaucoma.91
Morphometric Effects of Long-term Exposure to Latanoprost
2007, OphthalmologyCitation Excerpt :The pigmentation process within the iris and, particularly, the iris stromal melanocytes starts late in development and is not completed until 3 to 4 years postpartum. Furthermore, the iris stromal melanocytes contain all stages of premelanosomes in adulthood, and in some species, there is evidence of continuing tyrosinase activity in the adult iris.38–40 Iris stromal melanocytes are well equipped to increase their melanin granule content when provoked by appropriate stimuli.
