2008, Neural NetworksCitation Excerpt :Perceptual filling-in is not limited to the BS. It also occurs in various conditions such as artificial scotoma produced by transcranial magnetic stimulation (Kamitani & Shimojo, 1999), patients with retinal scotoma (Gerrits & Timmerman, 1969), stabilized retinal image in a normal visual field (i.e. defect-free) (Gerrits, de Haan, & Vendrik, 1966), and other conditions (Komatsu, 2006). These findings indicate that perceptual filling-in is a common process throughout our visual system.
