COVER: The glial interface at the retina-optic nerve junction. Astrocytes of the lamina cribrosa and nerve fibre layer of the retina are labelled with antibodies to glial fibrillary acidic protein (green). Oligodendrocytes of the optic nerve are labelled with antibodies to myelin basic protein (orange). The dense myelin in this region needs to be neutralised or bypassed for optic nerve regeneration to be successful. (From perspective by MacLaren, this issue, pp 577-83.)
