    BLINDNESS IN CHILDREN IN INDIA

    The causes of blindness in children vary greatly from different regions of the world. A recent study in Maharashtra State in India documented nearly 2000 students in blind schools. The major cause of visual loss was congenital anomalies accounting for more than 40% of children. Over one third of children were blind from conditions which could have been prevented or treated. There was no variation in causes by gender or region. See page 8
