AB The histochemical staining properties of the abnormal material deposited in the anterior segment of the eye in the pseudoexfoliation syndrome and the zonular ligaments of the lens are essentially the same. Both present the staining characteristics of oxytalan, the microfibrillar component of elastic tissue. Reasons are advanced for regarding the pseudoexfoliative material as a product of the ciliary and lenticular epithelium.
