    Citation Excerpt :

The animal models of anterior uveitis discussed above have allowed better elucidation of the immunopathogenic cellular mechanisms in anterior uveitis including the roles of various cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules in the multi-step process of leukocyte recruitment to the eye. Various cytokines, including pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1, and IFN-γ, as well as immunoregulatory cytokines such as IL-10 and TGF-β, have been implicated to play a major role in the pathogenesis of AAU in experimental models.48,49,74,155 Some of these findings have also been confirmed in human studies of uveitis.
