Cell- and nuclear-penetrating anti-dsDNA autoantibodies have multiple arginines in CDR3 of VH and increase cellular level of pERK and Bcl-2 in mesangial cells
2015, Molecular ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :It is possible that cell death or proliferation inhibition induced by anti-dsDNA Ab treatment might load stress on cells to trigger cell survival signals. However, there have been several reports showing relates of Bcl-2 increment and the induction of cell death in SLE, although contradictory opinion exists; increased expression of Bcl-2 as well as increased tendency to undergo apoptosis were found in SLE bone marrow cells and T lymphocytes (Gatenby and Irvine, 1994; Ohsako et al., 1994); a role of cytokine-induced enhancement of Bcl-2 expression in the pathogenesis of SLE was suggested (Graninger et al., 2000). The deregulated cell survival affected by the abnormally controlled cytokine network could be another possible explanation for our observations.

2000, Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Overexpression of Bcl-2 in mice leads to enhanced survival of B cells and an autoimmune phenotype.150 Patients with SLE have been shown to overexpress Bcl-2, and this has led to the hypothesis that this overexpression contributes to the development of autoreactive B cells.5,60 A minisatellite analysis of Mexican-American patients with SLE revealed an association of Bcl-2 polymorphisms with SLE.109
