24-h monitoring devices and nyctohemeral rhythms of intraocular pressure
2016, Progress in Retinal and Eye ResearchCitation Excerpt :He estimated that the increase in IOP with age in Western populations could be related to factors such as body mass index and high blood pressure. Weight: Many studies have demonstrated a positive correlation between IOP and the body mass index (Shiose, 1990). Seasons: There is a circannual rhythm IOP in temperate countries.
The exit strategy: Pharmacological modulation of extracellular matrix production and deposition for better aqueous humor drainage
2016, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :When IOP increases, it is primarily due to increased resistance to trabecular outflow. This rise in IOP above normal causes mechanical stress and reduced blood flow at the optic nerve and increases the risk of glaucoma (Bonomi et al., 1998; Dielemans et al., 1995; Shiose, 1990). The cause of the increase in trabecular outflow resistance in POAG is a long-lasting unanswered question.
