Photosensitive disorders of the skin with ocular involvement
2015, Clinics in DermatologyCitation Excerpt :Mainstays of treatment include strict photoprotection, topical corticosteroids, and topical calcineurin inhibitors for mild disease and NB-UVB, PUVA, or oral thalidomide for more severe disease. Ophthalmic treatments include surgical excision of the conjunctival lesions and treatment with topical cyclosporine eye drops in cases of treatment failure with topical steroids and vitamin A ointments.5 Chronic actinic dermatitis (CAD) is an uncommon, chronic eczematous dermatitis with a predominant photodistribution and, clinically and histologically, lichenification.
Actinic prurigo
2014, Dermatologic ClinicsCitation Excerpt :Oral cyclosporine (2.5 mg/kg/d for 6–8 months)53 and azathioprine (50–100 mg/d for 8 months)44 have been used with some success in a few refractory cases. Efficacy of topical 2% cyclosporine ophthalmic solution has been reported for the treatment of ocular AP lesions, with a dosage of 2 or 3 drops daily for 3 months.95,96 AP is a chronic, immunologically mediated photodermatosis associated with HLA DRB1*0407, a common allele in Central America and some regions of North and South America.
Actinic conjunctivitis in children: Clinical features, relation to sun exposure, and proposed staging and treatment
2009, Journal of AAPOSCitation Excerpt :Although there is an allergic component, it appears to be primarily a photosensitive reaction. Actinic conjunctivitis has been only described in Mestizo, Indian, and American Indian populations.1-8 The evidence that actinic conjunctivitis is primarily a reaction to sunlight in susceptible individuals, rather than primarily an allergic response, was proposed as early as 1941 by Solares5 in his description of actinic conjunctivitis in Indians and Mestizos in the highlands of Bolivia.
