Pediatric Renal Tumors: Updates in the Molecular Era
2020, Surgical Pathology ClinicsCitation Excerpt :Mature tubular structures may be present in the septa, but no blastemal or primitive epithelial elements are seen, in contrast with CPDN.1 Before molecular characterization, CNs were reported in patients with pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB) or their family members.2–6 PPB was first linked with germline DICER1 mutations a decade ago and, in a larger study, 12% of patients with PPB had or had a family member with CN.7–9
Association between congenital lung malformations and lung tumors in children and adults: A systematic review
2016, Journal of Thoracic OncologyCitation Excerpt :Whether PPB causes cysts or arises in preexisting cysts is still under debate. Several reports described PPB occurring in association with preexisting14–25 or simultaneosly recognized26 cystic disease of the lung and taking the form of a unilocular cyst,16,18,19,23–25 a multilocular cyst,14,15,18,20,26 or multiple cysts.21,22 It is not clear whether preexisting cysts have a role in the pathogenesis of the mesenchymal tumors, but it has been suggested that the cysts might serve as a vehicle for the retention and persistence of unstable mesenchymal cells.27
