Ocular effects of hyperbaric oxygen

Trans Ophthalmol Soc U K (1962). 1978 Apr;98(1):66-8.

Abstract

A series of 26 patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy for more than a month was examined. Eighteen of them showed a definite change in their refraction towards myopia. The amount of myopia varied from 0.5 to 5.5 dioptres. No other ocular effects were observed. It is considered that the change in refraction is due to increased refractive index of the lens.
